White Horse Temple in Hanoi

This is an ancient temple in the heart of Hanoi capital that the visitors don't want to meet when going the city.

When Ly Thai To King decide to move the capital from Hoa Lu to Thang Long (Hanoi), he wanted to build the wall but many times failed. The King prayed at Long Do Temple and he saw a white horse came out from the temple. Ly Thai To designed the wall’s construction followed the horse’s footprints, which helps the wall didn’t collapse. The genie was ordained as Thang Long Bible’s Tutelary.

White Horse Temple

Now White Horse Temple has big size which towards the south. All of its divisions were arranged in a closed space. The construction bear the Nguyen destiny’s art style (19th century). The outstanding is the wooden frame with the big wood pillars and special roof shelves. They all were well decorated.

Ho Chi Minh’s stilt house is a historic site which is in Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum’s campus. According to the data, the president required to build a stilt in Hanoi because when being in Viet Bac base, he only stay at stilt. On the war time, Ho Chi Minh was accustomed to simple life with the locals. When going back to Hanoi, he and architect Nguyen Van Linh discussed about building a stilt (Nguyen Van Linh was the person who designed Ba dinh Square). The architect designed the stilt according to Ho Chi Minh’s idea.

His house was built with wood, it had bedroom, kitchen, dining room and guest room. The stilt was 10,5 m of length and 6,2m of width. It included 2 floors. The 2nd floor has 2 rooms, the other was used to meet the guest. Hence, the house had 3 rooms with the modest area. The architect was also sophisticated when designing the house that it can get the sunshine in the morning and Ho Chi Minh president can see the sunset in the afternoon.

The legend states that the temple was built on the base of Ling Lang’s house (Ling Lang was a prince of Ly Thanh Tong King). When the Chinese attacked our country, Ling Lang prince defeated the enemy. When he passed away, Ly Thanh Tong required to build the temple to worship his prince and it was called “Voi Phuc Temple”.
