White Horse Temple in Hanoi

This is an ancient temple in the heart of Hanoi capital that the visitors don't want to meet when going the city.
When Ly Thai To King decide to move the capital from Hoa Lu to Thang Long (Hanoi), he wanted to build the wall but many times failed. The King prayed at Long Do Temple and he saw a white horse came out from the temple. Ly Thai To designed the wall’s construction followed the horse’s footprints, which helps the wall didn’t collapse. The genie was ordained as Thang Long Bible’s Tutelary.

According to the data found in this temple, it was maintained in Le Chinh Hoa destiny (1680 – 1705) and the 20th year of Minh Menh destiny.
White Horse Temple
Now White Horse Temple has big size which towards the south. All of its divisions were arranged in a closed space. The construction bear the Nguyen destiny’s art style (19th century). The outstanding is the wooden frame with the big wood pillars and special roof shelves. They all were well decorated.

The inside has spirit house and altars, the outside has Te Vuong Nhi fane. Incense burning and forbidden palace has altar and offering.

The temple saves many valuable antiquities, such as: steles, worshipping palanquin, worshipping cranes,… and a lot of architectural and artistic value. It is a valuable data to study about Thang Long – Hanoi history.
